Insurance companies aren't evil; they're a business like any other. It is only natural for them to look for the highest possible profits when doing business with you. Therefore, it's important that you look out for your own interests when you purchase life insurance. Here are seven life insurance tips that your insurance company is probably in no hurry to tell you:

Life Insurance Tips1. Lose the extras. Many life insurance policies include many extras that are worthless at best. Check out the padding in your insurance bill and don't get fooled by these.

2. Get your own insurance. Many employers offer life insurance as part of their benefits package. You may also receive a life insurance policy along when opening joining an organization or opening a bank account. To avoid risks, use these policies to complement your own life insurance.

3. Learn about churning. This kind of scam involves convincing a client to change their old insurance policy for a new one. This is often a way for an unscrupulous agent to hit you with new premiums after the value from the old policy is spent.

4. Live a healthier lifestyle. There are many reasons to stop smoking, work out, and eat better. If you need one more, consider this: most insurers will charge you twice as much if you smoke.

5. Look for specialty insurance if you have a particular health problem. There are some insurance companies that specialize in offering good rates to people with risks for heart disease, cancer, or other health conditions. If you have this kind of health problem, this could be a much better option.

6. Know exactly how much you're paying. Don't be misled with the convenience of a monthly fee, or automatic deductions from your bank account or paycheck. Know how much your insurance is costing you and exactly what your payments are used for.

7. Don't be misled by euphemisms. Many agents avoid saying the term “life insurance” and will disguise it with euphemisms, like “retirement plan” or “tax-free mortgage protection.” Know exactly what you're buying, and don't be misled.
