Before getting on your motorcycle and taking it out on the highway, you need to make sure you have the right motorcycle insurance. Almost every state requires that motorcyclists have motorcycle insurance; this even includes Kentucky.

Choosing The Best Motorcycle InsuranceThe first step to finding the right motorcycle is to decide on the types of coverage you want in your motorcycle insurance policy. There are basically 4 types of motorcycle coverage; liability, collision, comprehensive and uninsured motorist insurance. Liability coverage covers all the bodily injury and property damage that you and your motorcycle may cause to other people in the accident. Kentucky for example requires that a biker has at least a 25/50/10 liability limit. This means that the coverage covers $25,000 bodily damage for each person, $50,000 bodily damage for each accident and $10,000 in case of property damages.

Collision coverage covers the damage that occurs to your motorcycle during the accident but comprehensive coverage covers damages caused by other events such as fire or theft. Lastly, uninsured motorist covers the damages caused by motorists who do not have insurance.

Once you have decided, which type of coverage you would like included in your policy the next thing to do is find the right insurance company. You will come across many different insurance companies offering motorcycle insurance. So it’s best to find a couple of companies that have been highly ranked by other customers, which can be easily found on the internet through customer reviews.

After you find a few good insurance companies, the next step is to get a few quotes. You can do this over the phone or by requesting a quote online. The company will ask you questions regarding your credit history, the model and make of the motorcycle and so on.

When you get hold of all the motorcycle insurance quotes from the companies you are interested in, you will need to compare each of the quotes in order to find the best insurance policy for you. Don’t make the mistake of simply choosing the cheapest policy. You will need to compare the price and the benefits they offer you. You will also need to call the insurance provider to confirm the details on the quote before you make your final decision.

Choosing the right motorcycle insurance policy is important so take some time to do a little research and talk with several insurance companies before making your final decision. If you follow the above steps, you can be confident that you have found the right insurance company provider and the right insurance policy for you and your motorcycle.
