If you're concerned about the impact today's excessive reliance on motor vehicles is having on the environment, and are also searching for a way to reduce your weekly gasoline consumption to help save money, both of these issues are actually easy to address. As modern society is built around the automobile, it is simply not practical for most of us to cut down on the number of hours we sit behind the wheel of our vehicles. There are tips you can use that would ensure you do not burn any more gas that what is actually necessary.

Save Gas, Save MoneyThe following suggestions can help you to reduce consumption by as much as 10%. With gasoline prices continuing to rise, this can be a big financial saving. The way in which you drive will have an impact on how much fuel you use.

1. You should try and drive smoothly on every highway; this means speeding up and slowing down gradually, rather than accelerating fast and braking hard. Be aware of when road junctions and bends are coming up so that you do not need to use your pedals excessively.

2. The faster you drive the more fuel you will use. Always stick to the speed limits, not only is this safer for you and other road users, it also ensures better fuel efficiency. When driving at 70 mph you will use around 30% more gas than if covering the same distance at 50 mph.

3. As the number of vehicles on our roads has increased, so has the frequency of traffic jams. If you are to be stationary for more than a minute, it is worth switching off the engine. Leaving your vehicle idling for many minutes can waste a lot of fuel.

4. The way your vehicle is set up can also have an impact on how efficient it is. Do not carry any more weight than is necessary. If your car has become a storage unit for all kinds of odds and ends, take these out and place them in your garage. All you actually need in your vehicle is a spare tire and a few basic tools.

5. Regularly servicing your automobile can also help to increase its efficiency, changing the oil filter and ensuring the tires are correctly inflated can both help to reduce fuel consumption.

Being a green driver does not have to involve buying a vehicle with a hybrid engine. A few changes to the way you drive, and ensuring your car is set up correctly, can reduce your carbon footprint considerably and save you a respectable sum of money.
